Miscellaneous Career & Trade Classes

Construction Worker

Using lecture, demonstration, and practical training, students learn entry-level skills for a job in the construction field. Instruction includes: Tool selection and safety, foundations and floor systems, stair building, drywall, insulation and rough framing, plumbing and electrical. Students will learn building codes and an understanding of construction plans. Basic tool supply list provided. Also required: C&CR (page 22). *Late enrollment possible; classes begin 8/13.

Small Engine Repair

Small Engine Repair

Repair technicians are needed to care for tools and vehicles from lawn mowers to generators. Learn to troubleshoot and repair engine components and systems, work with engines, ignition systems and electrical circuits, inspect and repair small engine fuel systems; disassemble and rebuild all types of small engines. Required courses for certificate: Intro, Intermediate and Advanced Small Engine Repair. *Returning students pay material fee only.

Combination Welding

This multi-level course includes training in industrial fabrication and repair. Students learn skills in sheet metal work, heat treating, use of equipment and industry safety. Class employs the use of oxygen-acetylene, arc, MIG/TIG or wire. Training
prepares the student for entry-level jobs in the sheet metal and light fabrication industry. Required courses for certificate: Intro, Intermediate and Advanced Combination Welding. *Returning students pay material fee only.

How to Repair and Maintain Your Bike

This class is ‘geared’ for those wanting to keep their bicycles in top shape. Learn to maintain and adjust your brake and derailleur systems, fix a flat tire, basic lubrication and adjustment of the bicycle and knowing when to bring your bike in for professional attention.

Woodworking
Beginning with shop safety training, this class teaches basic woodworking using both machine tools and hand tools. Learn the different wood types, joining techniques, finishes and more with an emphasis on acquiring basic skills related to the woodworking industry. Participants will be involved in the design, drawing, planning, and construction of their own projects. Tools are supplied in class but students will purchase project materials.

Amateur Radio

Amateur Radio Technician

This prep class is also known as “Ham Cram”. Amateur Radio, also called ham radio, is both a hobby and a service that uses radio equipment to communicate with other radio amateurs for recreation and public service. The good news for anyone interested in this fascinating hobby is that knowledge of Morse Code is no longer required. Call Dorence Young for more information at 533-0147.
